2001 Patrick Air Force Base Air Show Thrills Thousands

By Cliff Lethbridge

PATRICK AIR FORCE BASE, FL (March 24, 2001) - The Air Force estimates that 120,000 to 140,000 people attended the 2001 Patrick Air Force Base Air Show, establishing a new record for the event. Patrick Air Force Base is the home of the 45th Space Wing, which oversees launch activity at Cape Canaveral. An air show is conducted at Patrick Air Force Base about every two years. This year, the air show was officially held on Saturday only, although some events were conducted a day earlier for special needs children. In previous years, the air show was open to the public on both Saturday and Sunday. As was the case in previous years, the stars of the air show were the Army Golden Knights Parachute Team and the Air Force Thunderbirds precision F-16 flying team.
